Rote turns your iPhone into a remote for your TV. Free, no account, no ads.

The fastest way to get help is the chat inside the app: Support on the remote screen, or the Support tab. It already knows which device you are connected to, so you will not have to explain your setup.

The app can't find my TV

Nine times out of ten it is the network. Check these, in order:

One Wi-Fi for both. The phone and the TV must be on the same network — not a guest network, and not one on mobile data.
Local Network permission. iOS Settings › Rote › Local Network must be on. Without it, no app can find anything on your network.
VPN. A VPN on the phone usually hides the local network. Switch it off and search again.
The TV must be awake. A fully powered-down TV cannot answer. Turn it on with its own button first.
Know the address? On the "nothing found" screen, use Connect by IP and type it in directly.

Buttons work, but volume doesn't

If your streaming device is a stick or a box, volume travels to the TV over the HDMI cable, and not every TV accepts it. The app notices this and offers what fits your TV. If nothing helps, the volume buttons on your TV's own remote keep working as before.

The keyboard types nothing

Text only lands where the TV is expecting it. Open a search or text field on the TV first — then type. If the field closes, the app tells you so instead of typing into nowhere.

Private Listening

Connect headphones or AirPods, switch it on, and the TV's sound moves to your phone. It keeps playing with the screen locked. If the connection drops, playback pauses by itself rather than jumping back to the speakers.

Does it cost anything?

No. There is no subscription and nothing to buy.
